Thank you for writing this! I found this great essay after bingeing on this album all day. I googled "Love Supreme" and "Jewish" because it felt to me like a Jewish prayer too, particularly the concluding "Psalm", but I could not articulate why. Thank you for so eloquently doing this for me!
I particularly relate to what you wrote about the spiritual power of music. I realize now that Love Supreme connects me to one of my most profound spiritual and Jewish experiences. My dear friend passed away in 2017 at the age of 43. At his funeral, his uncle, the great trombonist David Taylor, slowly walked from the back of the room to the closed coffin containing my friend playing, with more emotion and power than any spoken prayer could convey, hatikvah. The intense emotion and spirituality of that musical moment - after weeks of us sitting, with David and others, by my friend's side in hospice - was something I will never forget. Love Supreme evokes a very similar feeling.
Beautiful. Thank you for this!
