A few years ago I read the wonderful book The Checklist Manifesto.
It showed the extraordinary role simple checklists play in high-stakes activities like performing surgeries or flying an airplane.
Checklists save lives.
But it's not only in life-or-death activities where checklists help. They can make us happier, more productive, and more relaxed.
They can even nurture our spirit. Have you ever realized the Bible is full of lists?
My Obsession
I’m going to show you the ways lists can help us become creative, happy, relaxed, prayerful, kinder, and more giving. I'll also reveal interesting lists others have used. Perhaps they may spark an idea.
Why am I obsessed with lists? First, they help me enormously. They organize my thoughts, writing, sermon ideas, agendas, and so much more.
Second, the Hebrew Bible is full of lists! The most famous is the Ten Commandments.
But there are also genealogies, plagues, blessings, curses, kings, prophets, and much more. God loves lists!
Your Lists
It's the New Year. We are all probably writing lists of some sort or another--resolutions, regrets, hopes, dreams, or even simple lists of family remembers we want to call or write.
So let's take this opportunity to grow.
I invite you to respond to this email and tell me: What are your favorite lists?
Rabbi - My everyday carry list - ID, $, cell phone, auto and house keys, pen and paper, knife, lighter, and guitar pick. Have a blessed New Year!
Rabbi, I too use lists - mainly to keep me on track and serve as reminders.
